About Michel
Michel Navedo's style fuses the jazz tradition of New Orleans and the sounds of Puerto Rico – both places of his heritage. Growing up with such a rich musical background, Michel took to the trumpet at age 9 and has matured to a distinctive, lyrical voice.
Michel has been a principal player in groups ranging in styles from traditional jazz to electronic. A featured soloist in big band and symphonic settings, he has also shared the stage with such diverse acts as Roy Hargrove, Perry Ferrell, Chucho Valdez, Randy Newman and De La Soul. Studied in jazz, Afro Cuban and classical trumpeting, Michel's current focus lies in composing music for his and other jazz and Latin ensembles. His improvisations draw from jazz and the great variety of world music he has studied and performed.
Music Lessons
Celebrating over 30 years on the trumpet, Michel has studied jazz performance with Dr. Keith Winking at South West Texas State and Music Composition and Classical Trumpeting with Dr. Brian Post and Dr. Gil Kline at Humboldt State University in California. Michel has also studied traditional Cuban and Latin music technique with Maestro Inaudi Paisan Mallet in Santiago, Cuba.
With a fifteen year committment to improving the ability of trumpet students of all ages and levels of ability, Michel's teaching style emphasizes tone production, flexibility, endurance, range, and intonation. Sight reading, scales and music theory are also practiced to improve overall musicianship. Jazz and Latin music style and technique is also offered for advanced students. Lessons are $50/hour, with a sliding scale for low income students. Please contact Michel via email for more information.
